UNDISCOVERED Picks - August 2025

Welcome to the maiden edition of UNDISCOVERED Picks, where I highlight some of the amazing new music recently added to my UNDISCOVERED playlists! First off, it’s Electronica, Rock and Rap!
UNDISCOVERED Electronica
Creative electronica from unknown or under appreciated artists. Unique textures, surprising sounds, crazy melodies. Synths, beats, samples. Electric & eclectic - hidden gems with atmosphere from rising stars.

-
“Her” - Silhouettes
A slightly eerie intro with a smooth vocal explodes into a dirty beat with tactile, glass-like percussion, and a spacious, energetic mix. There are little catchy hooks hidden throughout, & the repetition of that vocal becomes almost hypnotic. Half way through we get a nice melodic techno pad that adds another layer and creates a great contrast, lifting the energy with yet another hook.

“Count or Strike Surf” - Advsfx
Gorgeous, squelchy bass sounds, and constant shifts and variations make this feel like I’m swimming in a pool of slowly boiling oil. Great use of panning and FX give this track an epic, exciting, disturbing atmosphere. A monolithic, unstoppable march towards your greatest fear - Advsfx have nailed that dystopian sound & aesthetic.

UNDISCOVERED Electronica -
“Sine Tooth” - Ametha
This track has a minimalist sound, but so many crazy ideas at the same time. With a wild, filtered bass melody, a simple, crisp beat, and some nicely chopped vocals, the first half is as much about the gaps and silences as it is about the sounds. Take a dubstep track, add more melody, and slowly inject it with a tranquilizer, and you get Sine Tooth.

UNDISCOVERED Rock
Unique rock from unknown or under appreciated artists. Infectious riffs, banging drums and intense sounds from any rock sub-genre.

-
“POV (YOU)” - FEDZ
The energy is fantastic from the very first moment, and FEDZ waste no time in throwing down a crazily catchy hook. The fuzzy guitars and the breathy vocal compliment each other perfectly, and the simple arrangement never feels empty because there are so many melodic ideas. By the time the huge bridge arrived, I was totally sold.

“LAY DOWN SLOW” - Ginger & The Peppers
Raw, funky powerhouse rock with a hint of country. The guitars sound amazing, and are matched by the crashing drum sound - it adds up to an immensely wide, powerful track that feels like we’ve travelled back to some classic heavy rock from the 70’s. Vocalist Julia Dillon has a crystal clear tone, but also a little raspiness which, when combined with the subtle FX and harmonies create a really expressive vocal. Incredible.

UNDISCOVERED Rock -
“I HOPE YOU GET IT” - Knives
A violent assault on the ears - makes Rage Against The Machine seem light and cheerful. It’s not even 2 minutes long, but it packs a lot in. I love the light and shade in the track, the intense riffs, that distorted bass sound, the screamed vocal, and the constant melodic & rhythmic shifts. Disturbing.

-
“BLIND BOY” - THE TRASH MAN
There are so many fresh touches in this track. The bounce in that bass line, the slightly eerie & dissonant vocal in the background. The sharp crack of the rim shot - and that’s before we get to the main vocal, which has loads of character and expression. A smooth flow and the perfect tone. Bursting with ideas and musicality.
LISTEN IN CONTEXT:
UNDISCOVERED Rap -
“Spirit, Pt 1” - Kwoli Black
Right from the start this sounds different. That strange guitar sample and the stuttering beat. Kwoli Black’s flow is fast and precise. The accent, the variation & the expression combine and means it never gets repetitive. This sounds like a constantly evolving beast with a story to tell. A really unique track.

UNDISCOVERED Rap -
“Many Mans” - SoSo
One of the most memorable tracks I’ve found in a while. That intro is so distinctive and builds perfectly - loved that pitched percussive sample - sounds like a demented cowbell. Your head will have no choice but to bob along. A tight vocal that shows a humorous side, with some inventive flows and a cadence that displays all kinds of skills. I could listen to this 10 times and still find something new.
