The Ambient Panorama 02: Vogel’s dream
Oct 16 2024 23:13:53In the second installment of “The Ambient Panorama”, I’m pleased to share my passion for ambient and modern classical music, along with a desire to support the talented artists within this genre. Hosted by the wonderful team at letssubmit, this series highlights music releases that I believe are truly worth your attention. October unfolds with a look at Eben Vogel’s recent release “Forget Me Not”, a cathartic composition that softly delves into mankind’s way of relating. Through these posts, I hope to inspire you to explore hidden soundscapes and discover gems within the ambient and modern classical music world.
What is “Forget Me Not”, and how Vogel’s music made a difference in your listening experience? Tell us more about the music and the artist.
October’s article on “The Ambient Panorama” is entirely dedicated to a recent single released by Eben Vogel – USA-based pianist and rising artist, who is both a talented musician and a colleague of mine. His recent composition “Forget Me Not” is a dedication to personal memories, as well as a metaphorical unifier for the universal feelings of remembrance, hope, gratitude, and decay. I recall why, at first, I felt captured by Vogel’s music, and the meaning is pretty intuitive. In a society that privileges and favors what bursts in, makes noise, what puts itself on display, what is powerful… in this all, sometimes we forget to look at what silently, lightly touches us, and slowly pushes us towards our paths. I believe this is the “power” of Vogel’s music - the silence, the humility of a flower, that can bloom and contain universes, only for the ones willing to stop, listen, and internalize. “Forget Me Not” is about feeling gratitude for the time spent with our dearly beloved ones. Eben himself states “Forget Me Not is a delicate blue flower in the mountains of Colorado. It reminds me of my childhood and hiking with my family growing up – I wrote this piece as a simple melody to remind me of all those memories”.
Diving deeper into Vogel’s discography, we (we - because I am doing this together with all the readers - art is a collective experience, after having been a deeply intimate one) discover other splendid compositions such as “Dream”, “Ascending”, “Floating”. What all Vogel’s releases have in common is a sincere impulse towards simplicity. I would bravely try to give it a definition - deconstructive minimalism. Something that as a starting point has deep personal feelings, which are processed, and given back to the world as a straightforward piano melody. Eben directs the listeners to a path that has already been travelled - by him. Taking in the palm of his hand the tragedies of each person’s life and offering to those who want to listen a way out. Vogel pushes the audience towards a mirror, reminding us of the roots from where we come, and the bonds that have allowed us to be what we are today. It was a pleasure to write again for letssubmit.
